ELECTROMAGNETISM P60 013 An experiment was
performed in which the force on a long current-carrying conductor placed
perpendicular to an external magnetic field was measured as the current in
the conductor was increased. The length of the conductor in the magnetic
field was 1.85 m. The
following results were recorded
Graph
the results. What
is the relationship between the force on the conductor in the magnetic field
and the current? Is this what you expected? What
was the magnitude of the external magnetic field in this experiment? View solution below only after you have completed the answering the question. |
Solution Force on a conductor in a magnetic field
We can conclude that the data is fitted by a straight line passing through the Origin. Therefore, the force on the current element is proportional to the current.
